Episode Twenty-Five // Conversation with Dr JoAnne Lyon

We talk about both politics AND religion... how uncouth.

In less than a month, The Wesleyan Church will be holding their 14th General Conference in St Louis, Missouri (live-streamed across the globe, for anyone interested), and for some of you reading these words, this is a big deal. For others, you literally couldn’t care less. I empathize with both reactions, even though I’m firmly in the former camp, and my hope is that if you make it through this conversation with Dr JoAnne Lyon, you might see why the themes that will be present at this nexus of time & space might matter to you.

Dr Lyon is a lot of things to a lot of people, but the primary reason she took the time to chat with me on this podcast was because she was recently the elected North American leader of The Wesleyan Church. So… we talk about her time there, and how she reads the current situation. But we also talk about her early life, what you might describe as a sort of “conversion” in her early 20s, her work in international development & relief, her passion for ecumenism, and… oh, I think we even mention the Pope’s recent groundbreaking apology to Canada’s First Nations population.

I mention near the outset that I do have a document that I worked on after reading through the “memorials” for the upcoming TWC GenCon, and though I do not intend to post them on the net baldly, if you’re interested in the conversation, please do feel free to reach out.
